But Are They Crisps?
Chad's Letters
Written by Chad Bradley

Dear Golden Wonder,

Can you please point out the difference between crisps and snacks? My favourite Golden Wonder product is Wheat Crunchies, and I would like to know if I am right to call them ‘crisps’.

Thanks.

Thank you for your letter regarding our products.

Golden Wonder crisps are slices of potato that are fried and then flavoured. Golden Wonder snacks are made from ingredients such as wheat (Wheat Crunchies) or maize (Wotsits, Nik Naks) and formed by an extrusion process. Therefore, Wheat Crunchies are a snack.

We hope this information is of use to you and that you will continue to enjoy using our products.

Yours sincerely,

  1. Okay then, what's a chip?
  2. A French Fry!!!! Duuuhhhh. Clearly a "chip".
  3. I am concerned about the manufacturer's definition of the Wheat Crunchie as a snack. I particularly enjoy binging on about a kilogram of bacon flavour Wheat Crunchies with my afternoon mug of Bovril: I find that the resulting bacony belches keep my considerable appetite at bay until my evening sacrifice and feast. However, I now find that this product is defined as a "snack", a term that indicates a light intake of food. I am concerned that it may therefore be illegal or dangerous to consume such volumes as I describe above. Indeed, I feel that it is a major omission in the labelling of this product that such a matter is not clarified. As a result, it is with regret that I will have to refrain from consuming this product until the matter is resolved, and will therefore revert to my previous established practice of licking pigs until I receive an answer.
  4. Isn't it that all crisps are snacks, but not all snacks are crisps... like in the case of Wheat Crunchies, they are a snack, but not a crisp....
